Nour Salem

Meet Our Team

I am a Resident in Psychology and am passionate about working with young children and their families toward healing. I am originally from Lebanon and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and my Special Education Teaching Diploma from the American University of Beirut. After graduating, I moved to New York City to continue my education and earned my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology with concentrations in children and families, trauma, and global mental health from Teachers College, Columbia University. I earned my Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical and School Psychology from James Madison University.

Over the last several years, I have been able to work as both a teacher and a counselor with preschool and school-aged children and families in both the United States and Lebanon. I have also had the opportunity to work in outpatient community mental health, behavioral health clinics, hospital-based clinics, and school systems. As part of my education, I received specialized training in play therapy, including child-centered, attachment-based, and parent-child therapies.

I provide individual, parent-child, parent support/consultation, and family therapy to help children heal from difficult or traumatic events, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions (such as divorce, adoption, additions/changes in families), relationship struggles, and behavioral challenges or concerns. My work is deeply rooted in the healing power of play and relationships. In treatment, I focus on fostering strong and trusting therapeutic relationships. My goal is to create a safe and secure space where children and their caregivers feel heard, seen, and understood. Helping families connect, communicate, and find healing in meaningful and playful ways is at the core of my clinical work.

As a native Arabic and English speaker, I am happy to offer services in both languages. I am also fluent in French and would be able to provide consultation and support in French.
