Lauren Furtner

Meet Our Team

I am a Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and my Master’s in Counseling from Adler University. I completed my clinical internship year at Fairfax Place Therapy, our other location, and look forward to working alongside you, or your child, at Alexandria Place Therapy to work toward making positive change.

In the therapy space, I value connection, collaboration, and building trusting relationships so clients can show up as their authentic selves. I strive to always meet my clients with empathy, cultural humility, and compassion. I aim to integrate different approaches and techniques to meet individual needs, with the goal of optimizing the therapy experience to navigate anxiety, depression, chronic illness, death, life changes, and beyond.

Prior to joining Alexandria Place Therapy, I worked as a Certified Child Life Specialist for eight years in various clinical settings at Inova Children’s Hospital and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. I worked to help children, teens, siblings, and caregivers cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, medical procedures, injury, trauma, loss, and bereavement. After my time working in healthcare, I truly value meeting individuals “where they are” and recognize we are each our own experts.
