Support Group for Caregivers of LGBTQIA2+ Youth

Are you supporting a child or teen who identifies as queer, trans, or gender expansive? Are you feeling overwhelmed by new terminology or struggling to adjust to your child’s new name and/or pronouns? Are you worried about how your child’s gender identity or sexual orientation may impact their lives? Are you excited that your child is being their most authentic selves and want to know how to better support them?

If you answered yes to any of these questions – this is the group for you! We are so excited to offer a six-week support group for caregivers of LGBTQIA2+ identifying children and teens. This group is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how you can show up for your child, support them through changes, and engage with your community. It is so important that you feel supported and informed while you support your child through this journey – and we are here for you!

Who is this for?

Caregivers, parents, and adult family members who are caring for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, pansexual, or nonbinary identifying children or teens.

When will we meet?

Tuesdays at 6 pm on March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5th, 2022.

Where will we meet?

We’ll be meeting virtually via Zoom.

How much will it cost?

A 30-minute intake/screening session ($100/individual or $150/pair) will be required for each participant to get started. The cost per group session is $85/individual or $120/pair. The total cost is $610/individual or $870/pair. We don’t want the cost to be a barrier to your participation, so please reach out if you’d like to discuss other options!

Who should I contact?

You are welcome to reach out to Hela Baer, LMSW, E-RYT at hbaer@alexandriaplacetherapy.com to register for the group or ask questions! Hela is a Supervisee in Social Work in the Commonwealth of Virginia and works under the clinical supervision of Heather Colby, LCSW.
