Parenting Support Therapy

Parenting Support Therapy

Always be bigger, stronger, wiser and kind. Whenever possible: follow my child’s need. Whenever necessary: take charge.

– Circle of Security

Challenges in parenthood are normal and expected, and we are here to support you through them. We find the best success in working with our child clients comes when we partner with parents to be agents of change themselves. There is no such thing as a perfect parent, and that is never our goal. We believe in Good Enough parenting; the idea that ruptures in the relationships with our children are expected and important, as they provide opportunities to strengthen connection, model resilience and more effectively tune in to our children’ s needs.  Our expertise in working with both children and adults allows our clinicians to effectively support parents through a broad range of caregiving issues.

How therapy can help

Parenting brings with it a number of role and identity changes. In addition to working with parents to address their child’s challenges, behaviors, and needs, we also serve to support you as a parent. We provide a caring and safe environment to explore your unique experience and to support you in becoming the parent you want to be.

You will collaborate with your clinician to tailor your sessions to meet your individual needs and goals. Areas of focus can include:

Whatever challenges you may be facing, we are here to partner with you to promote a sense of joy, playfulness and connection in your family.

Theraplay® Techniques

Theraplay® is an attachment-based treatment focused on enhancing the parent-child relationship through play-based, developmentally appropriate activities. The goals of Theraplay® treatment are to enhance the parent-child attachment, improve self-esteem, and achieve joyful engagement. The Theraplay® Institute refers to this therapeutic approach as “building relationships from the inside out.”  You can learn even more about Theraplay® here.

Circle of Security® Parenting Groups

We offer Circle of Security® Parenting groups, which are designed to help parents and caregivers make sense of their child’s behaviors and strengthen the parent-child relationship. The Circle of Security® framework was built from decades of research about what supports secure attachment in parent-child relationships, and parents/caregivers who participate in the group often report reduced stress and behavioral challenges, as well as increased understanding of and connection with their children. The parenting groups run for 12 weeks and meet virtually. We have two separate groups: one for parents/caregivers of younger children (ages 0 to 6 years) and one for parents/caregivers of older children (ages 7 to 12). Learn more about our group offerings and how they can help support your parenting goals here.
