
Saying Goodbye to Summer
Now that August is here there are only a few more weeks left of summer. Make August memorable for your little ones by trying out some of these local and easy-to-do ideas:
- Go on a nature hunt. Look for leaves, sticks, flowers, bugs, animals, colors, textures
- Try out one of these kid-friendly at-home science experiments, such as making dry ice bubbles or a kid-safe lava lamp
- Finger paint the sidewalk
- Host an ice cream social
- Make a water obstacle course outside with buckets, water-filled sponges, sprinklers, and water balloons
- Visit a local museum
- Have a picnic
- Take a trip to Burke Lake Park for mini-golf, train or carousel rides, or stroll around the lake
- Play hangman or tic-tac-toe with chalk outside
- Play a board game or cards as a family
- Camp out in the backyard or create camp night indoors with s’more fixings, hot dogs, and storytelling
- Make a countdown to school paper chain
